1. Purpose of This Policy
This policy explains how Al-Nasrah Foundation (“we,” “us,” or “our”) receives, manages, and distributes Zakat in accordance with Islamic principles and U.S. nonprofit regulations. It ensures transparency, accountability, and proper stewardship of all Zakat funds
2. Definitions
Zakat
A mandatory charitable obligation for eligible Muslims, typically calculated at 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one lunar year.
Nisab
The minimum wealth threshold required before Zakat becomes obligatory. Donors are responsible for determining their own Zakat eligibility and calculation.
Zakat-Eligible Beneficiaries
– Individuals and families experiencing financial hardship
– The poor and needy
– Those in debt
– Not be an immediate family relation to the donor
3. Scope
This policy applies to:
– All Zakat donations made through https://alnasrah.org
– All Zakat funds received by Al-Nasrah Foundation
– All programs designated as Zakat-eligible
– All staff, volunteers, and contractors involved in handling or allocating Zakat funds
4. Principles Governing Zakat Fnds
100% Zakat to Beneficiaries
Al-Nasrah Foundation follows a strict 100% Zakat-to-beneficiaries model. Every dollar of Zakat received is distributed to eligible recipients. No administrative, operational, fundraising, or overhead costs are deducted from Zakat funds. All administrative expenses are covered through non-Zakat donations or general operating funds.
Donor Intent
Zakat is applied according to:
– The donor’s stated designation, or
– Our Zakat-eligible programs when no designation is provided
Zakat Compliance
We adhere to widely accepted standards, ensuring:
– Zakat is distributed only to eligible categories
– Funds are used for direct aid, not capital projects or non-eligible expenses
– Priority is given to urgent needs such as food, shelter, medical assistance, and hardship relief
U.S. Nonprofit Compliance
As a 501(c)(3) organization:
– Zakat funds are treated as restricted charitable funds
– Funds are tracked and categorized for accounting and reporting
– Disbursements comply with IRS charitable-purpose requirements
5. Zakat-Eligible Program
– Emergency financial assistance
– Food and basic-needs support
– Medical hardship assistance
– Refugee and displaced-family support
– Other direct-aid programs serving individuals in need
Programs are reviewed regularly to ensure continued Zakat eligibility.
6. Financial Controls and Transparency
– Zakat funds are recorded as restricted contributions
– Donors may request summary reports on Zakat distribution
– We may publish anonymized impact summaries to maintain transparency
7. Donor Responsibilities
– Determining their Zakat eligibility
– Calculating the correct amount owed
– Clearly indicating when a donation is intended as Zakat
